When it comes to applying for things like Attendance Allowance or a Blue Badge, one of the biggest hurdles can be pulling together all the right medical paperwork. It can feel a bit overwhelming—especially when you’re busy enough already.
Here’s a simple time-saving tip to make things much easier: You can request a Summary Care Record (SCR) directly from your GP surgery.
It’s free, quick to request, and is accepted as part of the official evidence you need for applications like Attendance Allowance and Blue Badges.
Why Is This So Useful?
Saves time and stress – No need to find lots of different letters and records.
Official and accepted – The SCR is recognised for benefits and support applications.
Free of charge – You don't have to pay your GP for this service.
Simple to request – You can even do it by email!
If you’re helping someone else apply, you’ll just need to have their consent recorded with the surgery first. (Most surgeries have a quick form you can complete either online or at reception.)

A Final Tip
If you need to give permission for someone else to access your Summary Care Record, ask your surgery for a Consent to Share Information form.
This is quick to set up and helps family members, carers, or trusted people support you more easily.
If you need a hand writing your email or filling out the consent form, don’t worry—you can always ask one of our Good Company People team to help you.
