ITV's This Morning Visits Good Company

Last Wednesday was a milestone for Good Company. The team from ITV’s This Morning spent the afternoon with us at Snooker Club and Games Club, capturing the atmosphere and everyday moments that sit at the heart of what we do.

The segment they filmed will be broadcast on the day Richard Osman next appears on the This Morning sofa. Richard has been a generous supporter of Good Company and has spoken warmly about our work. The fact that our film will sit alongside his conversation about ageing well feels completely fitting. We are waiting for the confirmed date and will share it as soon as we know.

The crew began at the Constitutional Club where The Wednesday Snooker Club members were relaxed and already into their usual mix of snooker, darts and cards. Hosts including Steve, Susan and Dan spoke on camera about their experiences and the difference they see in members each week. Several members also shared what it means to have a place where they feel welcomed, recognised and able to enjoy familiar activities at their own pace.

Filming then continued at the Rugby Club for The Wednesday Games Club. Presenter Sian Welby joined us for the afternoon. Her father is living with dementia, and she has spoken publicly about the emotional and practical challenges of caring for someone at a distance. In a recent interview with The Independent she said,

“It is a really difficult position to be in because you have to work on your career, and yet by being down here I am not seeing my mum and dad as much as I would like to.”

Sian understood Good Company immediately. She told us she wished there was something like this where her dad lives and talked about the need for spaces that feel human, warm and easy to join.

Members Fiona, Anne Marie and Martin shared their experiences with her, and Sian joined a spirited reenactment of Cluedo with Heather, Felix and John. Heather solved the mystery with confidence. The answer, for those who want to know, was John in the dining room with the miniature dagger.

Nothing about the afternoon felt staged. Members simply carried on as usual. Hosts supported people as they always do. The film crew captured the rhythms, conversations and sense of belonging that make Good Company what it is.

Why this matters

Every week we meet people who say, “I wish this existed where my mum lives” or “My friend would love this if only it was near him.”

Dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK for both women and men, according to the Office for National Statistics. More families than ever are navigating uncertainty, shifting roles and the fear that life becomes smaller after a diagnosis.

At Good Company, we see a different story. A diagnosis does not have to mean stepping away from life. People can stay connected, active and engaged with the right support around them. What most people need is not clinical intervention but a place where they feel understood, included and able to take part in the everyday.

This links closely with the themes in The Thursday Murder Club. Richard Osman has said many times that the books are not really about crime. They are about ageing well, friendship, purpose and refusing to disappear. That is exactly what we see each week in our Clubs.

Do you want Good Company where you live?

When the This Morning segment airs, we expect many viewers to think, “We need this where we live.” If that is you, we would love to hear from you.

Good Company is built on a simple idea: people thrive when they have structure, company and support, especially during times of change. Our model is practical, low cost and rooted in real relationships. We are beginning to explore how it can be shared beyond East Sussex in a thoughtful and responsible way.
