At The Good Company People, we are always looking for tools and tips that can help our members, families and carers feel safe and supported, especially in those unexpected moments when things do not go to plan.
One topic we hear about regularly is worry around falls. Whether it is a personal fall or supporting someone else, many people are unsure what to do next, especially if someone ends up on the floor. That is where a clever free app called iStumble comes in.
What is the iStumble app?
iStumble is a free app developed by healthcare professionals. It offers clear, step-by-step guidance for what to do if someone has a fall. Whether you are a carer, a neighbour or just happen to be there when it happens, the app gives calm, clear advice to help you assess the situation and respond safely.
Think of it as having a first-aid guide in your pocket.

How does it work?
Open the app and answer a few simple questions:
Is the person responsive?
Are they injured?
Can they move or get up safely?
Based on your answers, the app will show you what to do next. That might include calling emergency services or helping the person up using the “backward chaining” technique, which is a safe supported way of getting up in stages.
There are also short videos that demonstrate safe techniques so you can feel more confident and prepared. You do not need any medical background, just a smartphone or tablet.
Why we recommend this app
Falls are one of the main reasons members end up in hospital. Even when there is no serious injury, the experience can really knock someone’s confidence.
We recommend iStumble because:
It gives carers, volunteers and friends a clear simple guide
It supports safety and independence for members
It can reduce unnecessary ambulance calls when a fall is not serious
It builds confidence in what to do next, especially after a fall
