Thanks to the generosity of Pine Grove Pictures and their supporters, The Good Company People recently received a £300 donation following a community screening of Walk the Line. We were one of three local charities chosen to benefit from the evening, alongside Hospice in the Weald and Smiles for Miles. The donation came from ticket sales and a lively raffle, which added a real sense of community to the night.

It was a brilliant example of how local groups can come together to support each other. We are incredibly grateful.

If you live in Crowborough or are part of The Good Company People, you may already know about Pine Grove Pictures. But if not, they are a much-loved community cinema run entirely by volunteers. They show everything from Friday night favourites to Golden Oldies on a Tuesday afternoon.

Pine Grove Pictures began in 2013 and has become something really special. Screenings take place at Crowborough Community Centre, with a friendly bar and time to chat before the film. Alongside new releases and classics, they run Pine Grove Extra on Thursdays. These showings include world cinema and documentaries. Their Golden Oldies series offers something particularly valuable: a chance to come together, reminisce and enjoy films from another time.

Why Golden Oldies Matter

Golden Oldies screenings bring back well-loved films from years gone by. For many people, especially older adults and those living with dementia, these films can be more than just entertainment. A familiar story or scene can spark conversation, boost confidence or help recall a memory thought to be lost.

These free Tuesday afternoon showings are open to everyone. They are especially welcoming for people who may feel isolated or are experiencing changes in their thinking or memory. The setting is calm, the films are joyful, and the experience often has a gentle but powerful effect.

Looking Ahead

We would love to help more of our members enjoy what Pine Grove Pictures has to offer. Their Golden Oldies screenings are relaxed, familiar and open to everyone. If you enjoy films from years gone by or just fancy a friendly afternoon out, they are well worth a visit.

If you are interested but unsure how to get there, or want to come along with others, let us know. We might be able to help with transport, reminders or just a bit of encouragement. We are also thinking about how we can share upcoming films more widely, so no one misses out.

We are really looking forward to working more closely with the team at Pine Grove and making sure more people feel welcome to come along.
