Spring is finally here, the days are longer, the flowers are blooming, and it is the perfect time to start thinking about something a little different. A change of scenery, fresh air, and time to relax can do wonders, especially if you are caring for someone or living with dementia.
That is why we are excited to tell you about Dementia Adventure, a brilliant charity offering supported holidays that are all about connection, nature and joy for people with dementia and the people who care for them.
What’s a Dementia Adventure Holiday Like?
One of our members went on a Dementia Adventure holiday and came back glowing. They shared stories of peaceful countryside walks, fun group activities, delicious meals and new friendships. It was not just a break from the routine, it was a chance to feel reconnected, recharged and truly relaxed.
Each holiday is different. You might find yourself boating on a quiet lake, trying your hand at archery, or simply enjoying a cuppa in the garden of a countryside retreat. Whatever the setting, the aim is always the same: to help people with dementia and their carers live well together.

Why We Love It
These holidays are not just about a change of scenery. Many carers say they sleep better, laugh more and feel a weight lifted, even if just for a few days. People with dementia often show signs of improved appetite, mood and confidence.
The team at Dementia Adventure takes the time to talk to each person before the trip, making sure it is a good fit and that everyone feels supported. They do not provide personal care as standard, but if it is needed, they can help arrange that for an additional cost.
Like us at The Good Company People, they believe that with the right support, people can do far more than they might expect.
What Does It Cost?
We know holidays like this are not cheap, but they are all inclusive, covering accommodation, meals, transport during the holiday, activities and even a lovely photo book to help the memories last.
The average cost for a couple is around £4,080. Subsidies and support funds are available, so do not be put off by the headline price. They want these holidays to be accessible.
You do not need to pay anything upfront. A £400 deposit is only due once you have had a chat and feel happy to go ahead. Final payment is due two months before your trip.
They also offer a small number of tailored breaks, perfect for multigenerational families or people with specific cultural or medical needs.
Other ideas for holidays and short breaks
If a supported holiday is not quite right for you, there are plenty of other ways to take a break together.
Coach holidays
Try a local company such as Woods Travel, which offers hundreds of affordable trips in the UK and Europe. They include door-to-door pick up and daily excursions, making travel easy and sociable.
Short local getaways
Eastbourne, Seaford and Pevensey Bay offer level promenades and seaside cafés. Ashdown Forest, Sheffield Park Gardens and Tunbridge Wells are calm, green places for a few days of rest and gentle exploration.
Day trips and community events
Local groups, community centres and travel clubs often arrange day outings that can bring the same lift as a holiday, without the need to stay overnight.
