Good Company HQ: We Made It

There has been a moment we have all been working towards for months and we have finally reached it.

Good Company HQ is ready!

Dan promised he would have it finished by the end of March and, by George, he has done it.

What has happened inside that building over the past few months is quite something. What was once a former pharmacy has been completely transformed into a space that already feels like Good Company.

Dan has been at the centre of it all. Early mornings, late nights, problem solving, coordinating and getting stuck in wherever needed. Alongside him, Martin has been working tirelessly away behind the scenes on electrics and all the things most of us do not even see but rely on.

Alongside Dan and Martin, we have had a whole village of local heroes. You know who you are. Some of you are featured here on the HQ page, but there are many more working behind the scenes.

It really has been a community effort.

The final stages coming together

Over the past few weeks, everything has come together very quickly. Walls rebuilt and replastered. A new kitchen and accessible toilet installed. Ceilings taken down and replaced. Fresh paint across the whole space.

The painting has been completed by Shaun, who has done a brilliant job. Everyone who has walked through the door has said the same thing.

This weekend Andy from Ashdown Carpets very generously came in and laid the carpet for free, which has completely changed the feel of the space. The TVs are now up, and we have full fibre broadband installed so we are ready to go.

This week, the furniture arrives, funded by Wealden District Council. Desks, chairs, shelving, armchairs, noticeboards and signage are all on their way, and we will really start to see the space come to life.

A huge thank you

What makes this even more special is the generosity behind it.

Between volunteers, local businesses and partners, a huge amount of time, expertise and support has been given. We estimate this has saved us around £50,000. That is not something we take lightly.

We can’t wait to open the doors for good

Can you believe that HQ is no longer just an idea or a plan? It is ready, and we are getting very close to opening the doors.

This will soon be a place where people can simply walk in, have a cup of tea, ask a question, find out what is going on locally, or just sit and feel part of something. A place for conversations, training, support and connection, right in the heart of Crowborough.

And we now have the team in place to make that happen.

Amanda Tucker has joined us as Member Support Lead and will be overseeing HQ day to day, working alongside a team of volunteer Concierge Hosts. Her role is all about making sure that anyone who walks through the door feels welcomed, listened to and supported.

This is Amanda on a well deserved holiday before she joined HQ last week!

Behind the scenes, Delia has been developing the training and tools to support this, so that we are not just opening a space, but creating something that really works for people from the moment they arrive.

We are almost ready. Let’s go.
