How to get the council to help with your bin collection

Updated: 3 days ago

Do you struggle to move your wheelie bin to the pavement on collection day? If lifting, pulling or walking the bin out is becoming difficult, you may be able to get help from your local council through an assisted bin collection.

In Wealden, this support is free and is designed to help people stay independent and avoid unnecessary strain or injury.

What is an assisted bin collection?

An assisted bin collection means the council collection crew will collect your bin from an agreed point on your property and return it afterwards, so you do not need to move it yourself.

Who can apply?

You may be eligible if:

  • You are unable to move your bin due to age, disability or health reasons

  • There is no one living with you who can put the bin out for you

You are unlikely to qualify if:

  • Your property has an exceptionally long driveway

  • You are away from home for long periods

How much does it cost?

The assisted collection service is free.
