Can You Help Bring Good Company to Ticehurst?

A new Monday Company Club for Ticehurst

ree

Good Company is coming to Ticehurst. Later this year we will open a new Monday Company Club for older adults and carers who would like to meet others, share a chat and enjoy a relaxed afternoon together.

The club will run once a month from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. There will be tea, cake and simple activities shaped by the people who come along. Some months it might be a quiz, a game, some music or a talk. Carers are always welcome.

This new club follows the same approach as The Saturday Company Club in Crowborough, where people come together over food, laughter and shared conversation. What began as a small idea has grown into a highlight of the month for many.

One member described it best:

“It feels like walking into a room where everyone’s pleased to see you.”

What happens at Company Club

At Company Club we like to keep things interesting. As much as we all enjoy the comfort of routine, we also love trying new things together. It keeps everyone curious and connected, and there is usually a lot of laughter along the way.

We have learned that when people take part in something new, they often rediscover confidence and joy in small but powerful ways.

Over the past few months members have joined in with belly dancing, where even those with walking sticks hung them up and joined the fun. There have been plenty of quizzes, flower arranging at Highgate Florist and Flower School, where Kerrie taught us how to make beautiful table displays from garden blooms while Blossom and Bean next door looked after us with tea and homemade cake. We have been gin tasting at Mousehall Distillery and even tried baking sessions with Fresh Dough - Crowborough's very own artisan microbakery.

Every time we try something new there are smiles, stories and sometimes a few surprises. It is about spending time together, laughing and reminding ourselves that we are all still learning, whatever our age.

Volunteers make it possible

The new club in Ticehurst will be run by local volunteers with support from our team. We are looking for people in Ticehurst, Flimwell and Stonegate who can help host, drive or share a skill. You do not need experience, just kindness and a willingness to join in.

Training and support are provided, along with expenses and plenty of cake.

“I have always needed to be surrounded by friends, and the idea that people live in loneliness is heartbreaking,” says Wendy Burns, one of our longest-serving volunteers. “Good Company means everything to me.”

Wendy joined before Good Company became a charity and has seen how volunteering changes lives on both sides.

“The name says it all,” adds Kate Barnes. “Good people, in good company. We all add something positive.”

Each club carries that same spirit. Whether it is Paul playing piano at Supper Club, someone baking for the afternoon tea table, or a driver helping members reach a meeting, it all comes down to the same belief that no one should feel left out of life.
