This week, we welcomed eight new volunteer Hosts into the Good Company fold and what a brilliant bunch they are. Each one brings something special: warmth, ideas, life experience, and a shared belief that ageing and caring should never mean going it alone.
The session was co-led by Lucy and our Lead Host, Wendy, who reflected on her own introduction nearly five years ago. A lot has changed since then - more Clubs, more members, and a growing team, but the heart of it remains the same: helping people feel more like themselves again, in good company.
Wendy left the session with a full notebook and a full heart. “It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come,” she said, “and how committed everyone is to making sure Clubs feel like places where people genuinely belong.”

So, what does a Host do?
Our Hosts are the glue that holds Good Company together. They welcome people into Clubs, help them feel at ease, and make sure everyone is included, whether someone’s come for the bacon sandwich, the quiz, or just a quiet chat in the corner.
Some Hosts run the show each week. Others offer a steady presence or support behind the scenes. Some have lived experience of caring. Others are here to learn. What they all have in common is a belief in the power of showing up, listening, and being there in a way that feels natural, not clinical.
As Tracy, one of our new Hosts, said:
“I found the induction really informative and inspiring. Good Company feels completely different from all other organisations. I’m really looking forward to joining an amazing community and helping our (Snooker) Club become a comfortable and safe place for people living with dementia to continue to enjoy playing snooker and darts.”
Looking ahead
We’ll be sharing more about our Hosts and the roles they play, from Club Hosts and Drivers to behind-the-scenes organisers. But for now, we just want to say a big welcome to our newest recruits. You’ve already made us proud.
