About the Film: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a much loved musical adventure based on the story by Ian Fleming, with songs by the Sherman Brothers. The film follows eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, his two children, and Truly Scrumptious as they bring an old racing car back to life and discover it has magical powers.
Together they set off on a joyful journey that takes them across beaches, countryside and imaginary lands filled with childlike wonder. Along the way they meet colourful characters, escape danger, outwit the villainous Baron Bomburst and experience moments of real warmth and togetherness.
The film is full of familiar songs such as “Toot Sweets”, “Hushabye Mountain” and the title track “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. Its mix of gentle humour, adventure and nostalgia makes it a comforting watch, especially for people who remember seeing it years ago.
This screening is a chance to enjoy a classic family film in good company
Did you miss?
At Thursday Cinema Club we try to watch films that feel current and interesting, as many people tell us they have not been to the cinema for a long time. Seeing something new together can feel refreshing and helps people feel part of what is being talked about. We also include the occasional classic if it suits the group.
Here are some of the films we have watched recently:
The Thursday Murder Club
Based on Richard Osman’s bestselling novel, this is a mystery set in a retirement village where a group of friends investigate a local crime. It is warm, funny and full of familiar faces.
Downton Abbey
A continuation of the much-loved television series, this film follows the Crawley family as they prepare for a royal visit. It is gentle, entertaining and easy to follow even if you have not seen every episode.
The Choral
A quieter, reflective drama about community, connection and the power of music. It prompted good conversation afterwards and was enjoyed by members who prefer something calmer.
Alongside our own Cinema Club outings, we also share films shown by Pine Grove Pictures, our local community cinema. They run friendly, well organised screenings at Crowborough Community Centre and recently supported Good Company with a donation from their showing of Walk the Line. We are very grateful for their kindness and the welcome they give to our members.
Pine Grove Pictures show a wide range of films, including:
🟡 Golden Oldies: Free Tuesday afternoon screenings of classic films
🔵 Main Programme: Monthly Friday evening showings
🟣 Pine Grove Extra: World cinema and documentary Thursdays
You do not need to be a member to attend, but joining comes with a few extra perks and helps support this brilliant local venture.
