Water Priority Service

Updated: 3 days ago

Everyday services like water are something most of us rarely think about until there is a problem. As we get older, or if health or mobility changes, having a little extra support in place can make a real difference to feeling safe, confident and independent at home.

Southern Water, our local water supplier in the High Weald, offers a free Priority Services scheme. It is designed to support people who may need extra help with communication, access or reassurance, and it can be very simple to sign up.

How the Priority Services scheme can help

Extra support during water supply interruptions

If there is planned maintenance or an unexpected disruption, people registered with Priority Services are given extra support. Southern Water will keep you informed and, if needed, arrange alternative water supplies such as bottled water.

Bills and information in accessible formats

If reading standard print is difficult, Southern Water can provide bills and letters in large print, Braille or audio format.

Nominee support If managing bills or communication feels overwhelming, you can nominate a trusted person to receive and manage this on your behalf. This could be a family member, friend or carer.

Password protection for home visits For added peace of mind, Southern Water can set up a password system. Any genuine Southern Water staff member visiting your home will use a pre agreed password so you know who you are letting in.

Dedicated support line People on the Priority Services register have access to a dedicated support line on 0800 027 0800 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)

Home visits If you find it difficult to leave your home, Southern Water can arrange a home visit to talk things through or help with managing your water services.

The scheme is free to join and is there to offer reassurance, not extra paperwork.

How to sign up

Online

You can register online using Southern Water’s Priority Services form. You will need your name, address and your payment reference number, which is the 13 digit number at the top right of your water bill.

By phone

Call Southern Water’s Priority Services team on 0800 027 0800. They can talk you through the process step by step.

By post

If you prefer, you can ask for a registration form to be sent to you, fill it in and post it back.

If you are unsure whether this scheme is right for you, or would like help talking it through, Good Company’s Concierge team is always happy to listen and help you think it through.

If you live outside Sussex

Southern Water’s Priority Services scheme is just one example. Most water, energy and utility providers across the UK offer similar Priority Services or extra support registers.

If you live outside Sussex, it is worth checking with your own water, gas or electricity supplier to see what support they offer. These schemes are usually free and can include help during supply interruptions, accessible bills, password protection for home visits and extra reassurance if you live alone or have health or mobility needs.
