Home from Hospital and Carer’s Crisis Response Service

The British Red Cross provide practical, local and emotional support to people around the UK.

Home from Hospital service

After a stay in hospital, The British Red Cross can get you home and help you settle back in with a home care service tailored to fit your needs.

The Home from Hospital service supports those who live alone, are isolated from their family, friends or local community, have caring responsibilities, or where the carer is under pressure following the cared-for person’s discharge from hospital.

Carers’ Crisis Response

If you're feeling overwhelmed in your caring role, the British Red Cross have volunteers that can provide practical and emotional support to carers in crisis. A carer is someone who provides unpaid support to a family member, friend or neighbour who could not manage without this help.

Using their person centred approach, they can offer short term support with things such as:

  • Weekly respite or companionship visits

  • Assistance with shopping, light housework or light snack

  • Managing day to day paper work

  • Assistance with online access

  • Confidence building

  • Building links with community and making friends

  • Support to access community and social activities

  • Signposting to other sources of support

The service does not provide personal care or domestic care.
